Mycotoxins

Toxic substances produced by moulds — mainly aflatoxins in nuts, dried fruit and spices, and ochratoxin A in cereals, coffee and dried fruit.

What it can cause

A single portion rarely causes acute illness; the concern is long-term exposure. Aflatoxin B1 is a known carcinogen.

What to do

Do not eat the product from the affected batch. Discard nuts or dried fruit that look mouldy or taste bitter.
