EU Safety Radar organises the public alerts of the European Union's rapid alert systems so that anyone can check in seconds whether a product, brand, barcode or batch has been the subject of a notification.
Where the data comes from
All alerts come from two systems run by the European Commission:
- RASFF — the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed. National food safety authorities use it to share information about risks in food, animal feed and food contact materials, including products rejected at the EU border. Reuse is authorised under Commission Decision 2011/833/EU.
- Safety Gate — the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products (formerly RAPEX): toys, cosmetics, clothing, electrical appliances, vehicles and more. Data and photos are licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Our system checks both sources automatically several times a day, imports new alerts in English — the language in which they are published — and keeps the address of the original entry. Every alert page links to it; the original is authoritative.
How we present the alerts
- We show the product, brand, model, barcode and batch numbers only when they are included in the notification. Nothing is invented or guessed.
- Each alert is assigned to a broad type of hazard (for example pathogenic micro-organisms, allergens or choking) based on the hazard stated in the notification, to make browsing easier.
- Short summaries may be written with the help of an AI model. A summary is rejected automatically if it contains any number that does not appear in the official data.
- A RASFF notification does not necessarily mean that a product was sold in every country — check the notifying country, the distribution list and the measures taken.
No alert status means a product is safe. The absence of an alert only means that there is no notification about it in our database.
Photos
Product photos come exclusively from Safety Gate (© European Union, CC BY 4.0). We keep resized copies on our server so that pages load quickly; the licence and attribution stay the same. We do not use photos from search engines or other unverified sources.
