Hazard
The product presents a high risk of electric shock as it was not designed in accordance with the principal elements of the safety objectives and has several departures from the British standard. Firstly, the product failed the electrical strength test. The insulation between the input and output circuits broke down when a 2.92 kV test voltage was applied between the circuits. The flash over occurred within the small transformer on the circuit board. The product also doesn’t meet the requirements of BS1363-1 as the thickness of the live and neutral pins were 4.33 and 4.31 mm, exceeding the maximum of 4.05 mm. The lengths of the live, neutral and earth pins were too short and the dimensions of the sleeved parts of the pins differed from the metal parts of the pins. This resulted in a distinct step between the two, which could cause damage to the socket and undue wear and tear to the sleeve. There were no instructions supplied to ensure that the product is installed safely and some of the required documentation and markings were missing.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Corrective action
The import has been rejected at the border.
