- Hazard
- 3M have identified an aging effect that may impact the performance of self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) produced from January 2022 to October 2024.
- In the event of a fall, these devices may not lock up as designed which could expose the worker to serious injury or, potentially, death.
- Any devices repaired by 3M, or an authorised service centre during this timeframe, may also be affected. Affected sizes are all variants of the 85 ft (~26M), 130 ft (~40M) self-retracting lifelines.
- Corrective action
- Recall of the product from end users.
- 3M have issued a product stop use and action notification sent to distributors with instructions to forward to all applicable end users.
- Affected end users are advised to stop using their Sealed-Blok™ device immediately and access the 3M alert to identify if their product is affected and complete the claim form to request redress: https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/worker-health-safety-uk/news-events/full-story/~/sealed-blok-recall/?storyid=49597a1a-2b98-480f-b0f5-7c4b43ed067f
